Whispers fill the air during the sweet nights of June in Montmartre. Sitting atop the Montmartre hill, we allow ourselves to be rocked by the zephyr wind which carries the perfumes of dusk, basking in the warm golden light. This gentle wind caresses our cheeks and brings new desires, a thirst for things that stir us inside, a longing for fresh and tangy – yet still gentle – pastries. Some journeys are essential; they must be made. We leave and come back not quite the same. As if our lives had seamlessly deviated from the original path ahead. Though this change might be imperceptible when it happens, it nevertheless transforms the future. As L.A. starts to fade into the past, only images and memories remain, moments which are no more but whose trace we will forever carry. Let us prolong the pleasures of a season which is too short by returning to a mainstay of summer months: the Fraisier. The pastry of childhood for many, this comfort food nonetheless demands good craftsmanship, and can easily lend itself to an unsuspected refinement. The Chef Cyril Lignac, unavoidable figure of TV culinary shows, has two boutiques in Paris in which one can revel in pâtisseries, viennoiseries (croissants, brioches etc.) and various specialty breads. When we last visited his shop, we set our heart on the Blueberry Blackcurrant Tart for a ruthless cross examination.
